âDescribe to me how you are floating,â says Mengele
âI donât know how, I just am... Iâm not touchingâ¦anything. The chair is beneath me but the straps are holding me downâ¦theyâre so tight nowâ¦â
Mengele almost couldnât believe what he was hearing. He knew that the Chancellor and the scientists here at this base were working on something top secret but he couldnât have imagined it wasâ¦this! Levitation? Of a child? Surely this couldnât be what the Chancellor was talking about. The Chancellor had asked him only to come and give an evaluation of this boy. That he was showing âunique characteristicsâ is how he put it, and wanted to know if heâd be able to withstand another âvigorous testâ. The Chancellor never once mentioned what those tests were.
Mengele was now more pleased than ever with his decision to come here.
Though Mengele was busy conducting his own unique tests on children at another camp, word had come through that the invading Allied Army were making significant advances in their surge against the Führer and the German Reich, so he figured a move to a more secluded area would be a safer option. He had no idea that he would be stumbling upon anything like this. And, that this boy had a twin sister made it all that more enticing, as siblings had become the main focus of his work. He still couldnât believe what he was hearing and would have to follow up with a few other things but in the meantime, he pulled out his pocket watch and saw that he had used up quite a bit of his time already, he wanted to hear more. He had better hurry things along if he were to get him over to the lab as expected.
âDoes anybody here know about what youâve told me today?â Mengele asked.
With this question Beniamin began to show strong signs of emotional stress, his head swinging back and forth. Sweat began to form on the surface of his forehead and his face began to take on a pained expression. Mengele knew he had to tread lightly here or risk forcing him out of his induced trance.
âListen to my voice, itâs okay to tell me, Beniamin.â
ââ¦mustnâtâ¦tellâ¦mustnât tellâ¦,â Beniamin repeated.
âBeniamin, I am going to count to three, and when I get to the number three you will feel nothing at all. You will feel light and free and happy,â sad Mengele, trying to regain control of the situation. âDo you her me, Beniamin?â
ââ¦noâ¦mustnâtâ¦tellâ¦â
âOne,â Mengele said in as controlled a voice as possible. âTwo,â he continued. âThree.â
Mengele let the word stand for a moment and saw that the boy began to loosen his grip on the sheets.
âNow, you are relaxed. Safe. Nothing can harm you here. Tell me you understand.â
âI understand,â said Beniamin.
âGood, now, answer me, does anybody else here know about what youâve just told me?
âYes,â said Beniamin.
âWho,â asked Mengele.
âPapa.â Said Beniamin.
âYour father?â Asked Mengele.
âYes.â
âWhat does he know?â Asked Mengele.
